Distinguishing between good and bad dreams

In the Bible God warns us to be careful of the dreams of sorcerers, false prophets, and He warns us about false dreams:

“For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are in your midst deceive you, nor listen to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed. For they prophesy falsely to you in My name; I have not sent them, says the Lord.” Jeremiah 20:8-9.

“If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’—which you have not known—‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.” Deuteronomy 5:1-3

“For the idols speak delusion; The diviners envision lies, And tell false dreams; They comfort in vain. Therefore the people wend their way like sheep; They are in trouble because there is no shepherd.” Zechariah 10:2.

Why does God give these warnings?

Because in your sleep the spirit world can reach you easily and the darkness can also give you false dreams, threaten you or tempt you with a strong feeling that is not your own. The problem is that many people do not distinguish the dreams as coming from the enemy. They think they are their own, and then accept the feelings as if they were always inside them. Dreams are a very natural part of God reaching and speaking to man, however the enemy has copied it and is also giving man dreams in this way to mislead him.

So each dream you have you should ask yourself: “Who is it coming from?”

There are only three choices: God (including Jesus!), demons, or yourself.

It all depends on who you are influenced by.

Dreams from God are always scriptural, they are filled with glory, warm and very clear. Dreams from the darkness can be terrifying and fearful, manipulative, cold, but also a deep feeling of lust or another temptation that suddenly comes over you.

At the moment that you have a dream, you have a choice: Are you going to agree with it or cast it off?

When you agree with it, it becomes your own.

Some say we should not listen to our dreams at all because they are afraid the dreams are coming from the enemy. However, if you shut off all your dreams, you will also not be able to hear the voice of God that way. God is spirit. He is Lord of the spirits and often speaks through dreams. However, it is important to learn how to make a distinction between Gods dreams, your own dreams and dreams given by the enemy.
